Our Story
Golden Nest was created from real life, real challenges, and a deep love for our parents. We built this app so seniors can stay independent, and families can have peace of mind.

In 2017, my father passed away. It wasn't sudden, and as a family we were expecting it - but none of us were prepared for everything that would come after.
A few months later, I was visiting my mother in Nova Scotia. A severe windstorm had torn through the area, and when we pulled into her driveway, we saw one of the large maple trees from the yard had crashed onto the side of the house. The neighbour had told us the power lines were sparking. The utility crew had already come and gone - they'd shut off the power to prevent a fire, but that was all they had time to do.
My mother looked at the damage, then turned to me with a look I had never seen before. It was the look of someone suddenly realizing they were alone in a world full of tasks they'd never had to handle. A look that said, "What do I do now?"
And in that moment, I realized she was looking to me for answers - answers she had always relied on my father for. My dad had handled everything outside the house: repairs, winterizing, insurance, contractors, maintenance. My mom had never needed to worry about any of it. Now she was expected to manage it all on her own.
I live in Ontario. Her life is in Nova Scotia. And she wanted to stay in the home she'd lived in for 30 years. She didn't want everything to change at once. She just needed support - reassurance that she could still live independently, even if she didn't know every next step.
So I did what many adult children do: I stepped in.
Daily calls. Constant check-ins. Texts. Reminders. "What did you get done today?" "Did you call the contractor?" "Did you take your medication?" "Do you need help with anything?"
"She just needed support - reassurance that she could still live independently, even if she didn't know every next step.
And I realized something important:
Aging adults aren't incapable. They aren't confused. They aren't "bad with technology."
They're simply facing tasks they've never had to do before - and they don't always know what they don't know.
Living alone comes with emotional and practical challenges.
Daily responsibilities can become overwhelming.
Couples compartmentalize chores - it's about filling knowledge gaps in everyday life.
Constant check-ins can feel stressful for everyone - but your family wants to know everything is ok.
Forgotten tasks can lead to stress, risks, or costs (opps... forgot to pay the power bill).
Feeling uncertain or helpless can affect confidence.

We believe aging adults are capable, independent, and deserving of the right support.
Our mission is to empower seniors to live independently with confidence - and give families peace of mind every day.
You are not alone. It's okay to ask for support. This app is here to help you stay independent, confident, and in control of your life.
We know how much you care. This app helps you support your loved one while living your own life.
Aging is a journey we all share. And for every couple, there eventually comes a moment when one of us must continue that journey alone. In those tender stretches, we can still make life feel smoother, safer, and more connected - together.
